Welcome to Skating On-Sea
Experience an exhilarating skate under the stars and see how the Forum provides a stunning backdrop to this exciting Christmas event presented by The Mayors Charity and Southend Carnival.
Our open-air real ice rink at Southend's Forum Building can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. We have a team of trained ice stewards who ensure that our rink is safe and well maintained.
Ice skating sessions last for 1 hour – this includes time to fit your skates so expect to have approximately 50 minutes on the ice.
Free skate hire is included.
The Ice Rink will be open from 14 November 2015 to 3 January 2016.
Please note that the Forum Ice Rink is outdoor and skating continues whatever the weather so please dress appropriately. Long coats should not be worn and scarves must be tucked in for visitor’s own safety.

Even more information
Ice Rink Access
The Forum Ice Rink is fully accessible to wheelchair users. Wheelchair users wishing to skate are asked to book in advance and are encouraged to book off-peak sessions when the rink is quieter.
Please note: wheelchair users must be accompanied on the ice by a competent skater. Groups of 4 wheelchair users or more are asked to book their sessions off-peak only.
Parking and Public Transport
As the Ice Rink is at the Forum, in the heart of Southend, there are numerous car parks in the area, for more information click here. Or to view the location on Google Maps click here. The Town Centre is also served by good public transport links and the Rink is a short walk from Southend Central Station.
Fun Skate Penguins
We will have 6 Fun Skate Penguins available for hire. They will not be bookable in advance and are hired on a first come first served basis. Penguin’s are hired out at the management’s discretion and may not be available on certain sessions. The Penguins are designed for children under 10 years of age as a “fun” item and not an aid to skating.
Please note: Penguin Skate aids are available on a first come, first served basis so customers are advised to arrive early if they require a skate aid. For safety reasons these may not be available for hire when the rink is nearing capacity.
The largest skate boot is shoe size UK 13. The smallest skate boot size available for children is UK 3 (age approx 3-4 years old), however 20 pairs of dual blades (‘bob skates’) are available for younger skaters. These are issued on a first come, first served basis.
